Kingdom Focus: Thanksgiving for God’s Work Across Oceania, Asia and the Middle East

Big Question: What has God already done that we have forgotten to celebrate?

The invitation confused everyone.

The harvest had not yet arrived.

The fields still stood green beneath the afternoon sun. Grain had not yet been gathered. Storage barns remained largely empty. The most important work of the season still lay ahead.

Yet the village leader had announced a feast.

Not after the harvest.

Before it.

For generations, the farming community had celebrated once the crops were safely collected. That made sense. People gave thanks after seeing the results of their labour.

This year was different.

When residents gathered beneath the large shelter at the centre of the village, they expected an explanation. Among them was a young farmer named Eli, who had recently inherited responsibility for his family’s land. Like many others, he was anxious about the future.

The previous year had brought challenges.

Unexpected weather.

Rising costs.

Market uncertainty.

Several neighbouring communities had struggled considerably.

As the gathering began, the village leader stood and addressed the crowd.

“Before we ask God for what we still need,” he said, “we must remember what He has already done.”

The statement seemed simple.

Yet it changed the entire atmosphere.

Instead of discussing future concerns, people began sharing stories.

One family spoke about surviving a devastating storm several years earlier.

Another recalled how neighbours had supported them during a season of hardship.

An elderly woman described answered prayers she had witnessed throughout her lifetime.

A teacher reflected on students whose lives had been transformed through education.

A pastor shared testimonies of lives changed by the Gospel.

As story followed story, something remarkable happened.

People began remembering.

Not merely isolated blessings.

Years of faithfulness.

Years of provision.

Years of protection.

Years of grace.

Eli listened carefully.

Until that moment, he had been focused almost entirely on what remained unfinished. He worried about rainfall, harvest yields, economic conditions, and future uncertainties. Like many people, he spent considerable energy thinking about what might go wrong.

What he had neglected was gratitude.

Not because he was ungrateful.

Simply because he had become distracted by tomorrow.

Later that year, Eli travelled throughout several nations across Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East as part of an agricultural exchange programme. Along the way, he encountered communities facing very different circumstances.

Some were experiencing growth and prosperity.

Others were rebuilding after hardship.

Some faced conflict.

Others enjoyed relative stability.

Yet one observation remained consistent.

Everywhere he travelled, God was at work.

Churches were serving communities.

Families were being restored.

Disciples were being made.

Prayers were being answered.

Leaders were emerging.

Needs were being met.

Lives were being transformed.

The challenges remained real.

But so did God’s faithfulness.

One evening, while visiting a community recovering from a difficult season, Eli asked a local pastor how they maintained hope despite so many obstacles.

The pastor smiled.

“We remember.”

Eli waited for him to continue.

“Every generation faces challenges,” the pastor explained. “But every generation also witnesses God’s faithfulness. The problem is that people often remember their problems more clearly than God’s provision.”

The words echoed the lesson he had learned at the feast.

Thanksgiving is not merely a response to abundance.

It is an act of remembrance.

Scripture repeatedly calls God’s people to remember. Israel was instructed to remember God’s deliverance. The Psalms celebrate His faithfulness. Jesus instructed His followers to remember Him. Throughout the Bible, remembrance and gratitude remain closely connected.

As this journey of prayer across Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East approaches its conclusion, it is worth pausing to recognise what God has already done.

Churches have been planted.

Scriptures have been translated.

Missionaries have gone.

Leaders have been raised up.

Communities have been served.

Prayers have been answered.

Lives have been transformed.

The harvest is not yet complete.

Much work remains.

Yet before we focus on what still needs to happen, perhaps we should do what that village did.

Pause.

Remember.

Give thanks.

Because gratitude transforms how we see both the past and the future.

And sometimes the most powerful act of faith is celebrating God’s faithfulness before the harvest is complete.

Understanding the Issue

Thanksgiving is an essential part of Kingdom life. Throughout Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East, God continues to work through churches, ministries, families, communities, businesses, educational institutions, healthcare systems, humanitarian efforts, and countless acts of faithful service.

While challenges remain significant, it is important to recognise progress, answered prayers, transformed lives, and evidence of God’s ongoing activity. Gratitude strengthens faith, builds resilience, encourages perseverance, and helps communities maintain hope during difficult seasons.

The Kingdom perspective encourages believers not only to pray for what is still needed but also to celebrate what God has already accomplished. Thanksgiving reminds us that God remains faithful across generations and nations.

Reasons to Thank God

• Thank God for every life transformed by the Gospel.
• Thank God for churches, ministries, missionaries, and disciple-makers.
• Thank God for answered prayers across the nations.
• Thank God for His faithfulness through every season.
• Thank God for the work He continues to do throughout Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East.

Prayer

Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness throughout Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East. Thank You for every life transformed, every prayer answered, every church planted, every disciple made, every family restored, and every act of compassion that reflects Your Kingdom.

Forgive us for the times we focus more on challenges than on Your goodness. Open our eyes to recognise Your hand at work in our lives, communities, and nations. Fill our hearts with gratitude, humility, and joy.

May Your Kingdom continue advancing throughout the nations. As we celebrate what You have already done, strengthen our faith for what You will do next. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Declaration

Today I choose gratitude over complaint and remembrance over forgetfulness. I will celebrate God’s faithfulness, share His testimonies, and give thanks for His goodness. By His grace, I will face the future with confidence because He has been faithful in the past.
