Big Question: Who still has not heard?

The road was not marked on most maps.

It wound through mountains, crossed rivers, disappeared into forests, and emerged again in places where few outsiders ever travelled. During the rainy season, sections became almost impassable. During the dry season, dust covered everything. The journey was long, exhausting, and often unpredictable.

Yet every few months, David found himself travelling that same road.

Friends frequently asked why.

The answer was simple.

At the end of the road were people.

Entire communities.

Families.

Children.

Elders.

People whose lives mattered deeply to God.

Years earlier, David had attended a conference where a speaker displayed a map of the world. Large sections of Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East were highlighted in different colours.

The presentation focused on populations with little or no meaningful access to the Gospel.

At first, the information seemed overwhelming.

Millions of people.

Thousands of people groups.

Hundreds of languages.

Entire communities where churches were scarce, Scriptures were unavailable, and opportunities to hear the message of Christ remained limited.

Then the speaker asked a question.

“If you were born there, how would you hear?”

The room became silent.

David never forgot that moment.

The question followed him home.

It followed him into prayer.

It followed him into conversations.

Eventually, it began changing the direction of his life.

Several years later, he joined a team serving remote communities in a mountainous region. The work involved education, community development, healthcare support, relationship building, and opportunities to share the hope found in Christ.

What surprised him most was not the distance.

It was the hospitality.

People welcomed him into their homes.

They shared meals.

They shared stories.

They shared questions.

Many had never met a follower of Jesus before.

Others had heard fragments of the Gospel but knew very little about it. Some carried misconceptions. Others were simply curious.

One evening, while sitting beside a fire after a community gathering, an elderly man asked him a question.

“Why did you come all this way?”

David paused before answering.

There were many possible responses.

But only one seemed sufficient.

“Because God loves people.”

The old man nodded slowly.

Then he asked another question.

“Even people here?”

The question revealed something profound.

Many people wonder whether they matter.

Whether they have been forgotten.

Whether anyone sees them.

The message of the Gospel answers all three questions.

God sees.

God knows.

God loves.

As the years passed, David travelled many roads.

Some led to remote villages.

Others led to crowded cities.

Some involved crossing international borders.

Others involved crossing cultural, linguistic, and social boundaries.

Along the way, he learned that the Great Commission is not merely a missionary assignment.

It is the heartbeat of God.

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture reveals God’s desire to bless all nations, redeem all peoples, and gather worshippers from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

The Great Commission is not primarily about geography.

It is about people.

It is about ensuring that every person has an opportunity to hear, understand, and respond to the message of Christ.

One day, while reviewing maps and reports with other ministry leaders, David noticed something encouraging.

Progress was happening.

Scriptures were being translated.

Churches were being planted.

Believers were making disciples.

Technology was opening new doors.

The Gospel was advancing.

Yet much work remained.

Millions still lacked meaningful access to the Good News.

Many still waited.

Many still wondered.

Many still had not heard.

As David looked once more at the road stretching toward the horizon, he realised that every generation must answer the same question.

Who will go?

Who will pray?

Who will give?

Who will make disciples?

Who will help ensure that every people group, every language, every community, and every nation has the opportunity to hear?

Because somewhere, even today, there are people waiting at the end of a road that someone must be willing to travel.

Understanding the Issue

Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East contain many of the world’s least-reached and unreached peoples. While significant progress has been made through missions, Bible translation, church planting, media outreach, disciple-making movements, and digital evangelism, millions of people still have limited opportunities to hear and understand the Gospel.

Barriers include geography, language, cultural differences, religious restrictions, social pressures, conflict, limited Christian presence, and lack of Scripture resources. Reaching these populations requires prayer, partnership, perseverance, innovation, and long-term commitment.

The Great Commission remains central to God’s redemptive plan. Every believer has a role to play through prayer, giving, serving, sending, discipling, encouraging, and sharing the Good News wherever God has placed them.

Reasons to Thank God

• Thank God for the spread of the Gospel throughout history.
• Thank God for missionaries, evangelists, church planters, translators, and disciple-makers.
• Thank God for Bible translation efforts reaching more languages.
• Thank God for technology opening new opportunities for Gospel access.
• Thank God for every life transformed by Christ.

What Is God Saying to You?

• How can you participate more intentionally in the Great Commission?

• What role does prayer play in your involvement with missions?
• Is God calling you to take a new step of obedience?

What Action Will You Take?

Choose one unreached nation, people group, or region to pray for consistently over the next month. Ask God to show you one practical way to support the advance of the Gospel locally or globally.

Prayer

Father, we pray for the peoples and nations of Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East who still have limited access to the Gospel. Raise up labourers for the harvest. Open doors for Bible translation, disciple-making, church planting, media outreach, and Kingdom partnerships.

Strengthen missionaries, pastors, evangelists, translators, intercessors, and believers serving faithfully in difficult places. Protect them, encourage them, and provide everything needed to fulfil the work You have entrusted to them.

May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done among every tribe, language, people, and nation. Let the knowledge of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Today I embrace my role in the Great Commission. I will pray, serve, give, share, and disciple as God leads. By His grace, I will help ensure that more people have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
