Luke 2:25–38

New King James Version (NKJV)

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

“Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
For my eyes have seen Your salvation
Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.

Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

The Message (MSG)

Luke 2:25–38 (Contextual rendering for flow)

In Jerusalem at the time there was a man, Simeon by name. He was a good man, a man of prayer, waiting for help for Israel. The Holy Spirit was on him.

The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple.

As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:

“God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation:
it’s now out in the open for everyone to see—
a God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel.”

Jesus’ father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words.

Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother:
“This child marks both the failure and the recovery of many in Israel,
a figure misunderstood and contradicted—the pain of a sword-thrust through you—but the rejection will force honesty, as God reveals who they really are.”

Anna the prophetess was also there, a daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher. She was now a very old woman. She had been married seven years and then widowed for eighty-four years.

She never left the Temple area, worshiping night and day with her fastings and prayers.

At the very time Simeon was praying, she showed up, broke into an anthem of praise to God, and talked about the child to all who were waiting expectantly for the freeing of Jerusalem.

Psalm 37:7

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

The Message (MSG)

Psalm 37:7–9 (Contextual flow)

Quiet down before God,
be prayerful before him.

Don’t bother with those who climb the ladder,
who elbow their way to the top.

Bridle your anger, trash your wrath;
cool your pipes—it only makes things worse.

Before long the crooks will be bankrupt;
God-investors will soon own the store.

6am Father, make me like Simeon and Anna, steadfast in waiting, pure in expectation, and faithful in devotion.

9am I reject restless unbelief; I receive grace to wait on the Lord without fainting, complaining, or withdrawing.

12pm Let every promise over my life, my household, and Your Church be preserved until the hour of manifestation.

3pm Lord, sustain the intercessors who have waited long; let their eyes behold the consolation You promised.

6pm I decree that delay shall not produce doubt, and process shall not abort prophecy.

9pm Every spirit of premature surrender, lose your assignment over the saints and over this generation.

12am Father, reward night-and-day seekers with undeniable encounters, fulfilled promise, and prophetic clarity.

3am Let patient intercession mature into open visitation, and let waiting wombs bring forth divine purpose.
