Theme: Thy Kingdom Come
Geographical Focus: Paraguay and the Gran Chaco, including Indigenous communities, rural settlements, farmers, cattle workers, churches, children, missionaries, and national leaders.
Kingdom Focus: Clean water, rural access, Indigenous dignity, sustainable agriculture, education, healthcare, land justice, locally led missions, and national development that reaches isolated communities.
Big Question: Who remembers the people living beyond the roads, markets, hospitals, and public attention that others take for granted?
Mateo had never seen the ocean. His home stood in the Gran Chaco, where the land stretched towards a distant horizon under a wide sky. During the dry season, dust covered the roads, and the journey to the nearest town could take hours. When rain finally arrived, parts of the same road became almost impossible to cross.
His family raised a small number of animals and cultivated what the conditions allowed. Water determined nearly everything. It shaped health, farming, school attendance, travel, and the daily responsibilities of women and children.
Mateo’s mother, Rosa, woke early to check the household’s remaining water. She knew exactly how much could be used for drinking, cooking, washing, and the animals. A leaking container or delayed delivery could affect the entire family.
The village school had one committed teacher but limited materials. Some children travelled long distances, while others stopped attending when family labour became urgent. Healthcare visits were infrequent, and ordinary illnesses could become dangerous because treatment was far away.
A small church met beneath a simple roof near the centre of the settlement. Its pastor, Esteban, had been raised in the region and understood that ministry could not be separated from water, transport, education, land, and livelihood. He preached Christ, discipled families, and also helped the community communicate its needs to churches, authorities, and development partners.
One year, a visiting organisation offered to construct a water project. The community was grateful, but Pastor Esteban asked whether local residents would be trained to maintain it. Previous projects had arrived with celebration and failed after a broken part could not be replaced.
This time, village leaders participated in planning. Young people were trained in maintenance, women helped determine safe access points, and the project included water storage, filtration, and education about sanitation. What had begun as outside assistance became local responsibility.
Mateo became one of the young people trained. He learned that sustainable help does not merely deliver a solution; it equips people to manage, repair, and improve it.
Paraguay is landlocked, but its deeper isolation is not geographical alone. Rural and Indigenous communities can remain distant from public investment, healthcare, education, markets, technology, and political attention even when they belong fully to the nation.
The Gran Chaco also carries agricultural, environmental, and economic importance. Farming and cattle production can create livelihoods and national income, but expansion must be managed responsibly. Development that removes communities from their land, destroys forests, or exhausts water may produce profit while weakening the future.
Indigenous peoples must not be treated as obstacles to development or as symbols for occasional celebration. They are communities with languages, leadership, knowledge, rights, gifts, and aspirations. Decisions affecting their land and livelihoods should include their meaningful participation.
Churches and missionaries also require humility. The Gospel should be communicated faithfully while local believers are equipped to teach, lead, translate, and disciple their own people. A mission that remains permanently dependent upon outsiders has not completed its work.
Months after the water system opened, Rosa watched children filling clean containers near the school. The change was practical but profound. Girls spent less time walking for water, illnesses decreased, and the school garden began producing vegetables.
Mateo later travelled to another settlement to help repair a similar system. For the first time, he saw that his remote village was not only a place receiving help. It could become a place that sent knowledge, faith, and service to others.
The landlocked heart had begun to beat beyond its own boundaries. The people who had seemed hidden were becoming leaders in their own development and partners in God’s mission.
Consider how distance from major cities can make entire communities invisible to decision-makers, churches, and the wider public.
Reflect on the difference between temporary assistance and development that equips local people to maintain and multiply solutions.
Ask God to bring clean water, healthcare, education, lawful protection, and Gospel discipleship to overlooked communities.
Isaiah 41:17–18: “The poor and needy seek water, but there is none… I will open rivers in desolate heights.”
Proverbs 31:8–9: “Open your mouth for the speechless… and plead the cause of the poor and needy.”
John 4:14: “The water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Deuteronomy 15:11: “You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy.”
2 Timothy 2:2: “Commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
Paraguay is a landlocked nation with important agricultural production, cultural diversity, bilingual identity, natural resources, and strong rural communities. The Gran Chaco includes remote settlements, fragile ecosystems, Indigenous peoples, farms, and cattle operations.
Many isolated communities face limited access to clean water, roads, healthcare, education, communications, and markets. Seasonal weather can make transport even more difficult.
Agricultural development should create employment and national value while protecting water, forests, soil, workers, and community rights. Indigenous peoples should participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their land and future.
Churches can serve through discipleship, Bible translation, water projects, education, healthcare, agricultural training, and leadership development that strengthens local ownership.
We thank God for Paraguay’s people, churches, farmers, Indigenous communities, families, languages, rivers, land, and agricultural gifts.
We thank Him for rural teachers, health workers, pastors, missionaries, engineers, and community leaders serving in difficult conditions.
We also thank God for local believers who are becoming pastors, translators, technicians, educators, and missionaries among their own people and beyond.
Ask God whether your attention is drawn only to visible places and prominent people while remote communities remain outside your prayers.
Listen for a Paraguayan family, Indigenous people, rural church, teacher, farmer, missionary, or community leader He may be asking you to carry in prayer.
What I sense God saying to me:
Support a trustworthy, locally accountable initiative providing clean water, healthcare, education, agricultural support, Bible translation, or discipleship in an underserved community.
Examine any project you support and ask whether it equips local people to lead, maintain, and multiply the work.
My commitment today:
My practical action:
Father, we thank You for Paraguay, the Gran Chaco, and every family, church, village, farm, Indigenous community, and rural settlement within the nation.
Provide clean and dependable water. Strengthen water systems, sanitation, healthcare, roads, schools, communications, and transport in isolated communities.
Protect children from malnutrition, preventable illness, exploitation, trafficking, and the loss of education through poverty or distance.
Bless farmers, cattle workers, traders, teachers, healthcare teams, technicians, and small-business owners. Give them rain in season, fair markets, knowledge, equipment, and sustainable livelihoods.
Preserve the dignity, languages, lawful rights, and leadership of Indigenous peoples. Confront land seizure, discrimination, exploitation, and development that ignores community participation.
Give wisdom and integrity to Paraguay’s leaders. Direct public resources towards overlooked regions and ensure that rural families receive the services and protection owed to them.
Strengthen pastors, missionaries, translators, and churches. Raise locally led congregations that proclaim Christ, disciple families, serve communities, and send workers to others.
Let agriculture develop without destroying water, forests, soil, or future generations. Teach government, business, and communities to steward the land responsibly.
May the hidden places of Paraguay become centres of wisdom, leadership, discipleship, and service. Let Your Kingdom come across every city, village, farm, road, church, and heart.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Today, I declare that Paraguay belongs to the Lord and that no community will remain forgotten because of distance, poverty, language, or geography.
I declare clean water, safe roads, strong schools, accessible healthcare, fruitful land, and dignified opportunity over rural families.
I declare honour and protection over Indigenous peoples, integrity over national development, and wisdom over agriculture and natural resources.
Local churches will rise, leaders will be equipped, and communities once considered remote will carry the Gospel, knowledge, and practical solutions to others.
The landlocked heart will beat with hope, justice, provision, and Kingdom purpose.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
People should not become invisible because their communities are difficult to reach. The heart of God extends beyond paved roads, major cities, and places of public influence.
Carry Paraguay and the Gran Chaco in prayer today. Remember those travelling for water, children walking to school, pastors serving isolated villages, and communities seeking to protect their future.
Help one overlooked person or community move from dependence towards dignity and local leadership.
