Learning to See

🌍 DAY 5 — The Seed That Disappeared

The old farmer smiled when he heard the complaint, though he tried not to show it. He had heard the same frustration many times before. This time it came from his twelve-year-old grandson, Mateo, who stood at the edge of the field with his arms folded and disappointment written all over his face.

A week earlier, they had spent two long days planting seeds together on the family farm outside Córdoba, Argentina. The work had been hard. They had risen before sunrise, carried heavy sacks across the fields, opened furrows in the soil, planted each seed carefully, and covered them before moving on to the next row. By the time they finished, both were exhausted, but Mateo had been excited. He imagined green shoots appearing almost immediately, followed shortly by the harvest his grandfather often described.

Instead, the field looked exactly the same.

Every morning he returned to inspect it. Every morning he found nothing but soil. There were no signs of growth. No evidence of progress. No indication that anything had changed at all.

Finally, unable to hide his frustration any longer, he confronted his grandfather.

“I don’t understand,” he said. “We planted all those seeds. We worked so hard. Now they’re just gone.”

Miguel looked across the field before answering.

“Gone?”

Mateo nodded.

“I can’t see them anywhere.”

The old farmer laughed softly. “That’s because they’re underground.”

“But if they’re underground, how do we know they’re doing anything?”

Miguel paused for a moment. Years of farming had taught him that some lessons could not be rushed. He bent down, picked up a handful of soil, and let it slowly fall through his fingers.

“Because growth doesn’t begin where people can see it.”

The words sounded simple, but Mateo did not fully understand them until weeks later. Day after day, the field appeared unchanged. Yet beneath the surface, the seeds were absorbing water, developing roots, and preparing for life. Nothing visible was happening above the ground, but everything important was happening below it.

Then one morning, almost without warning, tiny green shoots began appearing across the field. Within days there were hundreds. Soon there were thousands. What had looked empty and lifeless suddenly became a blanket of green stretching toward the horizon.

Standing beside his grandfather, Mateo realized how close he had come to misunderstanding the entire process. He had mistaken invisibility for inactivity. He had assumed that because he could not see growth, growth was not happening.

Years later, long after he inherited the farm, he would remember that lesson whenever life felt slow. He remembered it during seasons when prayers seemed unanswered. He remembered it when obedience felt unnoticed and when progress appeared invisible. He remembered it during difficult years when nothing seemed to be changing despite his best efforts.

Again and again, he discovered the same truth.

God often works beneath the surface long before we see the results.

Roots develop before fruit appears. Character forms before influence grows. Faithfulness matures before opportunities arrive. The deepest work of God is often hidden from view until the moment He chooses to reveal it.

The world teaches people to value what can be measured immediately. God often works differently. Throughout Scripture, He repeatedly develops people in hidden places before bringing them into visible assignments. Joseph spent years in prison before stepping into leadership. David spent years tending sheep before wearing a crown. Even Jesus lived quietly for decades before beginning His public ministry.

Nothing was wasted.

Nothing was forgotten.

Nothing was delayed.

The seeds were simply growing beneath the surface.

That evening, as the sun settled over the Argentine countryside, Mateo and his grandfather stood together watching the young crop sway gently in the wind. The old farmer placed a weathered hand on his grandson’s shoulder and said something Mateo never forgot.

“Never dig up a seed just because you don’t see the harvest yet.”

Years later, he would realize that his grandfather had not been talking only about farming.

Perhaps God is saying the same thing to you today.

What if the very thing you believe is delayed is actually developing beneath the surface?

🙏 PRAYER

Personal

Father, help me trust You even when I cannot see immediate results. Teach me to remain faithful during seasons of waiting and growth. Strengthen my faith when progress seems invisible and remind me that You are always at work beneath the surface.

Family

Pray for your family members. Ask God to strengthen their faith, deepen their trust in Him, and help them remain steadfast during seasons of uncertainty.

Community

Pray that believers in your community will not become discouraged while waiting for breakthrough. Ask God to strengthen and mature His people through every season.

Nation of the Day — Argentina 🇦🇷

Pray for spiritual awakening across Argentina. Ask God to raise faithful disciple-makers, strengthen churches, transform communities, and bring many people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Unreached Peoples

Pray for those who have never heard the Gospel. Ask God to send laborers into the harvest and reveal Himself to those who are searching for truth.

📢 DAILY DECLARATION

Today I choose faith over frustration.

I trust God’s timing.

I trust God’s process.

I trust God’s purpose.

Even when I cannot see immediate results, I know God is at work.

I will remain faithful.

I will continue planting.

I will continue praying.

I will continue obeying.

I will not give up before the harvest arrives.

I will see like an eagle.

I will lead like a lion.

I will serve like Christ.

In Jesus’ name.
