Andrés Rojas carried twenty-seven names inside a black folder.
Each name belonged to someone connected with Casa de Paz, a network of churches, homes, farms, workshops, and counselling teams serving displaced families, former armed-group members, recovering addicts, and young people trying to leave violent organisations.
Some names belonged to pastors. Others belonged to mechanics, teachers, farmers, social workers, and women who hosted Discovery Bible Studies in their homes.
Andrés believed they were dangerous.
He worked within a regional investigative unit and had received authority to question several leaders concerning allegations that Casa de Paz was hiding wanted individuals, interfering with investigations, and persuading former fighters not to cooperate with authorities.
Some allegations were serious enough to require investigation. A ministry serving people leaving violent groups had to maintain clear boundaries, report credible threats, and avoid protecting offenders from lawful accountability.
Andrés, however, had moved beyond careful investigation.
Years earlier, his older brother had been killed during an armed confrontation. The case remained unresolved, and different groups blamed one another. Andrés came to believe that anyone speaking about reconciliation was asking victims to forget.
To him, mercy had become another word for weakness.
He had watched religious leaders pray publicly for peace while privately seeking influence from competing political interests. He had also seen criminals present dramatic conversion stories, obtain church protection, and then disappear before facing their victims.
By the time Casa de Paz entered his investigation, Andrés had already decided what it represented.
He described the network as a religious shelter for guilty people.
His supervisor instructed him to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and distinguish humanitarian assistance from obstruction of justice. Andrés instead requested a broader operation against the entire leadership network.
He obtained letters authorising him to travel to another city, locate several named leaders, and bring them in for questioning.
The list in his folder was arranged carefully. Beside each name were photographs, known addresses, church affiliations, relatives, occupations, and suspected connections.
At the top was Pastor Samuel Cárdenas.
Samuel had once belonged to a violent group. Years earlier, he had confessed his involvement, entered a formal reintegration process, cooperated with appropriate authorities, and accepted restrictions connected to his case. He later became a mechanic and began hosting a DBS for former fighters and victims willing to participate voluntarily.
Andrés did not believe the transformation was genuine.
“A man changes his language,” he told a colleague, “but the blood on his hands does not disappear.”
His colleague replied, “Forgiveness does not erase evidence. But neither should evidence prevent us from recognising genuine change.”
Andrés closed the folder.
“People like Samuel know how to perform repentance.”
Before leaving for the operation, Andrés visited his mother. She still kept his brother’s photograph beside a candle and a worn Bible.
When she learned where Andrés was going, she asked whether Casa de Paz was the same network helping widows from their former neighbourhood.
“They help people who should first answer for what they have done,” he replied.
“Perhaps they are helping some people answer truthfully.”
“You sound like them.”
His mother looked towards the photograph.
“I want justice for your brother. But I do not want his death to turn you into a man who needs everyone else to remain unchanged.”
Andrés left without answering.
The following morning, he travelled with two officers and a driver. Rain had fallen overnight, and mist remained over parts of the road. The black folder rested on his lap.
He reviewed the names repeatedly.
Some names were marked high priority. Others were labelled possible facilitator, financial supporter, or host location.
They were not people to him. They were entries connected to a suspected network.
As the vehicle climbed through a narrow section of road, Andrés’s phone lost signal. He closed his eyes briefly, irritated by a headache that had begun before departure.
Then light filled the vehicle.
It was not the ordinary brightness of morning. Andrés covered his face and shouted for the driver to stop. The vehicle pulled towards the roadside.
The other men asked what had happened, but Andrés could barely hear them.
He fell to his knees beside the open door.
Then he heard a voice:
“Andrés, Andrés, why are you persecuting Me?”
His first thought was that someone had followed them and was using a hidden device. He forced his eyes open but saw only brightness.
“Who are You?” he asked.
The answer came:
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Rise and enter the city. You will be told what you must do.”
The officers standing nearby heard Andrés speaking but did not understand what he was experiencing. They saw no person confronting him.
When the brightness passed, Andrés opened his eyes.
He could see nothing.
At first, he assumed the blindness would last only a few seconds. He rubbed his eyes, demanded water, and asked the driver to examine them.
Nothing changed.
The man who had travelled with authority, warrants, addresses, and names now had to be held by the arm and guided back into the vehicle.
The folder fell onto the road. Papers scattered across the wet ground.
One officer gathered them hurriedly. A photograph of Pastor Samuel rested face-up near Andrés’s shoe.
“Do not lose the list,” Andrés said.
Yet his voice no longer carried the same certainty.
During the remaining journey, he said very little. His colleagues contacted his supervisor and reported a medical emergency. Plans for the operation were suspended.
Andrés was taken to a secure residence rather than a public hotel. A doctor examined him but could not immediately explain the sudden loss of sight. Further assessment was arranged.
Food was placed before him that evening, but he did not eat.
He kept hearing the question:
“Why are you persecuting Me?”
Andrés had believed he was pursuing dangerous people. Jesus spoke as though the attack against His disciples was an attack against Him personally.
That night, the names returned to him one by one.
Samuel Cárdenas—the former fighter whose repentance Andrés had already judged false.
Elena Ruiz—the widow who hosted displaced families.
Tomás Velasco—the mechanic who employed young men leaving gangs.
Lucía Moreno—the teacher who facilitated a DBS among teenagers.
The names were no longer silent entries. Each belonged to a person Jesus claimed as His own.
For the first time, Andrés wondered whether his grief had become permission to treat every suspect as already condemned.
He also remembered genuine failures committed by religious institutions. The encounter with Jesus did not mean every allegation against Casa de Paz was false. Nor did it mean lawful investigations should end.
It meant Andrés could no longer pretend that his motives were pure.
He had used justice to hide hatred.
He had used procedure to strengthen prejudice.
He had carried lawful authority, but his heart had already passed sentence before hearing the complete truth.
For three days, Andrés remained blind. He ate nothing and drank very little. His colleagues assumed fear and shock had removed his appetite.
They did not know that the investigator was being investigated.
On the second day, Andrés asked for the black folder.
An officer placed it on the table before him.
“Read the names,” Andrés said.
The officer began with Samuel.
“Tell me what the file says he admitted.”
The officer reviewed the record. Samuel had confessed involvement in serious wrongdoing years earlier. He had completed required interviews, supplied information, and participated in a monitored reintegration process. No active warrant appeared in the file.
“Then why did I mark him high priority?”
The officer hesitated. “You believed he was influencing others not to cooperate.”
“What evidence supports that?”
“There are two anonymous statements, but no verified interview yet.”
Andrés continued through the list. Some cases contained legitimate concerns requiring careful inquiry. Others were based on association, rumours, or the fact that a home had hosted people later questioned by authorities.
The deeper he listened, the more clearly he saw without his physical sight.
The list had combined different kinds of people into one category: offenders, former offenders, witnesses, victims, hosts, relatives, pastors, and volunteers.
Andrés had treated proximity as guilt.
He asked the officer to note where evidence was missing, where lawful concern existed, and where his own assumptions had shaped the file.
Later, his mother called. A colleague held the phone near him.
She had heard about the blindness but not the encounter.
“What happened?” she asked.
“I met the One you kept asking me not to resist.”
His mother became silent.
Andrés continued, “I thought I was defending justice.”
“Perhaps you were trying to,” she replied.
“No. Sometimes I was defending my anger.”
She did not tell him that everything he had done was acceptable. Neither did she use the moment to condemn him.
“Then tell the truth about both,” she said. “Tell the truth about the crimes people committed, and tell the truth about what hatred did inside you.”
That evening, Andrés asked someone to read Psalm 119 aloud.
The reader began:
“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.”
Andrés had built his identity around law, order, evidence, and discipline. Yet the psalm did not praise people who merely possessed rules. It described those who sought God with the whole heart.
As the reading continued, several lines pierced him:
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.”
“I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.”
“Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.”
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Andrés had possessed a list, but he had lost the path.
He had believed light meant greater information about other people. Now God’s Word was illuminating him.
On the third day, he asked to hear Numbers 2. The chapter described Israel arranged around the tabernacle according to tribes, standards, camps, and assigned positions. Every group had a place, identity, and responsibility, while God’s presence remained at the centre.
The order was not built around one leader’s suspicion. It was built around God’s dwelling among His people.
Andrés thought about the names in his folder. He had arranged them around his theory of danger. God saw them within a larger story of family, sin, suffering, calling, accountability, and possible redemption.
Some needed protection.
Some needed correction.
Some needed to answer for crimes.
Some needed healing.
Some needed restoration after completing lawful processes.
Every name required truth, but not every name required the same response.
As darkness continued around him, Andrés began praying for the people he had intended to arrest. He did not pray vaguely. He asked God to expose any concealed wrongdoing, protect victims, bring offenders to truthful repentance, and prevent innocent people from being punished through careless association.
Then he prayed for Samuel.
“Jesus, if his repentance is false, expose it. If it is real, forgive me for wanting it to be false.”
That prayer broke something inside him.
Andrés had not merely doubted Samuel. He had needed Samuel to remain guilty in every possible sense because transformation threatened the story Andrés had built around his brother’s death.
If violent people could repent, victims still deserved justice.
But hatred could no longer claim that change was impossible.
Near the end of the third day, Andrés saw something in prayer: a man he did not recognise entering the room and placing hands upon him.
The image disappeared quickly, but a name remained:
Ananias.
Andrés asked the officers whether anyone named Ananias was connected to Casa de Paz.
They searched the folder.
There was no Ananias.
Andrés almost laughed. For three days, the list had contained every name he believed mattered. Now Jesus had spoken a name that was not on it.
Somewhere in the city, God was preparing an ordinary disciple to approach the man everyone else had reason to fear.
Andrés waited in darkness.
For the first time in years, he was no longer issuing instructions.
He was waiting to receive one.
Acts 9:1–9 introduces Saul still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of Jesus. His hostility was not passive disagreement. He actively sought authority from the high priest to arrest believers in Damascus and bring them bound to Jerusalem.
Saul carried letters bearing institutional approval. He believed his mission defended God, protected religious faithfulness, and removed a dangerous movement.
Religious certainty can become destructive when zeal is separated from humility, truth, and the voice of God.
As Saul approached Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly surrounded him. He fell to the ground and heard:
“Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”
Jesus identified Himself with His followers. Saul believed he was attacking men and women who had departed from truth. Jesus declared that the persecution reached Him personally.
This reveals the deep union between Christ and His people. Harm inflicted upon disciples matters to Jesus. Their suffering is neither invisible nor impersonal to Him.
Saul asked:
“Who art thou, Lord?”
The answer overturned his entire understanding:
“I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.”
The crucified Jesus whom Saul rejected was alive, exalted, and speaking with divine authority.
Saul’s transformation began not with an argument he won but with a revelation that exposed how profoundly wrong he had been.
He entered Damascus blind, dependent upon others to lead him by the hand. For three days, he could not see and neither ate nor drank.
The man who intended to direct everyone else became dependent. The one carrying names to arrest now waited for someone whose name he did not yet know.
The blindness was not merely punishment. It became a place of confrontation, surrender, prayer, and preparation.
Conversion often begins when Jesus interrupts the story people have told about themselves. Saul saw himself as defender, but Jesus revealed him as persecutor. Andrés saw himself as guardian of justice, but Christ exposed hatred hidden within his pursuit.
This does not mean concern for justice was wrong. The transformation required Andrés to separate legitimate responsibility from prejudice and vengeance.
Jesus can transform opponents, but the Church should not use Saul’s conversion to demand immediate trust from wounded people. Saul’s future ministry would require confirmation, community discernment, demonstrated change, and courageous disciples willing to receive him wisely.
Forgiveness may be immediate in the heart, but restored access and leadership require evidence, accountability, and time.
Numbers 2 records how Israel camped around the tabernacle according to tribes and standards. There was order, identity, responsibility, and assigned position.
At the centre stood the tabernacle—the visible sign of God’s presence.
Healthy movements also require order. Names, households, responsibilities, risks, safeguarding records, and leadership structures matter. Careless organisation can endanger people.
Yet human systems become dangerous when suspicion, ethnicity, status, trauma, politics, or personal grievance replaces God’s presence at the centre.
Andrés had organised people around his anger. Numbers 2 shows a community ordered around God.
Lists are not inherently wrong. Governments, churches, relief agencies, businesses, schools, and ministries need accurate records. The question is what the list is designed to accomplish and whether every name is treated with truth and dignity.
Psalm 119 celebrates God’s Word as truth, instruction, delight, correction, and light. The psalmist repeatedly asks God to teach, strengthen, revive, guide, and preserve him.
“I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.”
Transformation requires honest self-examination followed by changed direction.
“Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.”
Affliction may expose error that success concealed. Saul’s blindness removed his ability to continue unchanged.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Saul had travelled with official letters but without true light. Divine revelation corrected the path institutional authority had approved.
This does not mean private impressions should replace Scripture, evidence, law, or accountable discernment. Claims of revelation must be tested. Yet every human authority remains subordinate to the truth and lordship of Jesus.
Together, Acts 9, Numbers 2, and Psalm 119 reveal that Jesus can interrupt persecutors, expose hidden motives, reorder lives around His presence, and use His Word to redirect people who were sincerely travelling in the wrong direction.
A movement facing opposition should ask:
Are we protecting vulnerable people? Are we praying for opponents’ transformation? Have we confused forgiveness with immediate trust? Are allegations being tested fairly? Are our lists based on evidence or association? Is our community ordered around Christ or around fear? Would we recognise genuine repentance if it appeared in someone we had already judged permanently?
Jesus did not deny Saul’s persecution.
He confronted it.
He also saw an apostle where everyone else saw an enemy.

Psalm 119
Acts 9:1–9 shows Saul travelling with authority and confidence, yet moving directly against Jesus. Christ interrupted him, exposed his error, and led him into three days of blindness and dependence.
His transformation began with surrender. He could no longer define Jesus, the disciples, or himself according to his former certainty.
Numbers 2 shows Israel arranged carefully around God’s dwelling. Order, identity, and responsibility matter, but God’s presence must remain central.
Psalm 119 reveals the Word as light that exposes our ways and redirects our feet. A person may possess authority, education, and sincere conviction while still travelling along the wrong path.
These passages call disciples to welcome divine correction, test their motives, handle names and evidence responsibly, and believe that Jesus can transform even determined enemies.
Pray for opponents, protect people from credible danger, investigate allegations fairly, distinguish evidence from association, submit personal motives to God, allow Scripture to correct your direction, acknowledge wrongdoing clearly, accept dependence and accountability, give genuine repentance room to develop, and keep Christ rather than fear at the centre of every system.
Avoid romanticising dangerous people, ignoring threats, cancelling lawful investigation, treating association as proof of guilt, allowing personal grief to determine another person’s sentence, assuming sincerity guarantees correctness, demanding immediate trust after repentance, restoring leadership before character is tested, or declaring anyone beyond the transforming reach of Jesus.
Write down the name of one person or group you consider an opponent, threat, betrayer, or enemy.
Separate verified facts from rumours, assumptions, political labels, family narratives, and emotional conclusions. Where danger is credible, maintain appropriate boundaries and involve responsible authorities.
Ask God to expose both their wrongdoing and any hatred, pride, prejudice, or desire for revenge within you.
Read Psalm 119:57–72 slowly. Write one way your own path, language, or response may require correction.
Pray specifically:
“Jesus, protect people from harm, expose every hidden work, bring offenders to truthful repentance, and prepare me to recognise transformation without abandoning wisdom.”
Review any list, database, report, complaint, or category under your influence. Ask whether it distinguishes among victims, witnesses, suspects, relatives, former offenders, and people merely connected by association.
Lord Jesus, You see every person I have classified as an enemy. You know the real danger, the complete evidence, the hidden motives, and the possibility of repentance.
Protect me from carelessness, but also deliver me from hatred disguised as wisdom. Show me where grief, fear, pride, or prejudice has distorted my judgment.
Let Your Word search my ways and redirect my feet. Where I have been wrong, give me courage to confess clearly and accept accountability.
Teach me to forgive without becoming naïve and to recognise transformation without rushing trust. Keep Christ at the centre of every decision.
Interrupt every path that leads me away from You. Even when correction leaves me dependent and uncertain, teach me to wait for Your next instruction. Amen.
Father, we lift Colombia before You. Pour out Your Spirit across its departments, cities, villages, mountains, coastlands, forests, farms, schools, businesses, churches, and families.
Bring spiritual awakening marked by repentance, holiness, truth, reconciliation, justice, compassion, and multiplying disciples.
Heal communities affected by violence, displacement, grief, trafficking, corruption, addiction, fear, and unresolved loss. Protect victims, witnesses, children, young people, Indigenous communities, Afro-Colombian communities, farmers, migrants, and displaced families.
Give wisdom, courage, restraint, and integrity to national and local leaders, judges, investigators, law-enforcement officers, lawyers, journalists, community leaders, and those working for peace.
Strengthen processes that combine truth, justice, accountability, restitution, protection, repentance, and responsible reintegration. Prevent false reconciliation that silences victims and revenge that makes transformation impossible.
Provide dignified work and opportunity for young people. Raise ethical employers, teachers, mentors, pastors, counsellors, farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, and community builders.
Strengthen churches to protect vulnerable people, report serious wrongdoing, welcome genuine repentance, and refuse manipulation by political, criminal, or financial interests.
May Colombia become a testimony that Jesus can transform persecutors, heal wounded communities, and multiply disciples across former lines of hostility. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Lord, heal the Americas from cycles of political violence, gang conflict, racial hatred, organised crime, revenge, persecution, and dehumanising labels.
Protect communities from dangerous people and corrupt systems. Give investigators, courts, churches, and public institutions wisdom to distinguish evidence from prejudice and accountability from retaliation.
Bring determined opponents of the Gospel into encounters with Jesus. Transform persecutors, abusers, traffickers, corrupt leaders, and violent offenders through truthful repentance.
Give victims freedom from pressure to trust prematurely. Provide counselling, legal protection, safe boundaries, restitution, and supportive community.
May movements remain centred upon Christ rather than fear, ideology, ethnicity, or revenge. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father, strengthen believers whose names appear on hostile lists because they follow Jesus.
Protect imprisoned Christians, underground churches, threatened pastors, families under surveillance, and disciples rejected by their communities.
Give them wisdom, safe fellowship, legal support, courage, and freedom from hatred.
Prepare the Church to respond when persecutors repent. Raise Ananias-like disciples who combine courage, spiritual discernment, truth, and wise boundaries.
Keep leaders from placing newly converted influential people into premature authority. Let repentance produce tested character, accountability, service, and lasting fruit.
May former enemies become faithful witnesses to the grace and lordship of Jesus. Amen.
Lord Jesus, raise disciple-makers who believe no person is beyond Your reach.
Teach them to pray for opponents without exposing others to harm. Give them wisdom to distinguish forgiveness, reconciliation, trust, and leadership restoration.
Help them walk patiently with people whose pasts are complicated. Let confession become restitution, humility, accountability, and new obedience.
May those once carrying lists against Your people become servants who carry the Gospel to nations. Amen.
Lord of the harvest, confront influential people who oppose the Gospel among unreached peoples.
Reveal Jesus through Scripture, dreams, courageous witnesses, suffering believers, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Protect disciples under persecution and strengthen their families. Prepare local believers to receive repentant opponents with wisdom rather than fear or carelessness.
May former persecutors become translators, teachers, church planters, advocates, and witnesses among their own peoples. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Today, I acknowledge that Jesus can transform the person I consider least likely to change.
I will not ignore danger, abandon evidence, or pressure victims into premature trust. I will protect people and support lawful justice.
I will also refuse hatred, careless labelling, guilt by association, and the belief that anyone is beyond Christ’s reach.
I will allow Scripture to examine my motives and correct my path. Where I have been wrong, I will confess and accept accountability.
🦅 I will see like an eagle.
🦁 I will lead like a lion.
✝️ I will serve like Christ.
By God’s grace, fear will not remain at the centre of my decisions. Jesus will.

Today, Saul travelled with threats, authority, and names of disciples he intended to arrest. Jesus interrupted him, exposed his persecution, and led him blind into Damascus.
Tomorrow, God will call an ordinary disciple named Ananias to approach the man everyone fears. The persecutor is waiting, but the disciple must decide whether he will open the door.
