Becoming disciples who refuse to commercialise spiritual power, distinguish generosity from manipulation, and pursue the Holy Spirit through repentance, surrender, truth, and obedient character.
The Caribbean
Spiritual awakening, integrity in ministry, protection from spiritual manipulation, ethical leadership, dignified opportunities for young people, strengthened families, responsible stewardship, unity among churches, and multiplying disciple-making movements throughout Saint Lucia.
Julian Antoine knew how to fill a room.
He organised conferences, concerts, tourism experiences, business seminars, and motivational events across Saint Lucia. His voice carried easily through a microphone, and his social-media pages showed him standing beside musicians, entrepreneurs, public officials, visiting speakers, and people who described him as a visionary.
Julian also understood the language of faith. He spoke about favour, energy, destiny, open doors, spiritual alignment, and supernatural increase. His events often included prayer, music, testimonies, and carefully designed moments of emotion.
He was not a pastor, although many people treated him like one.
For a fee, he offered private “breakthrough consultations” in which clients discussed business, relationships, family problems, and spiritual fears. Julian would pray, provide motivational guidance, and sell packages containing journals, recorded declarations, anointing oil, and access to private online sessions.
Some clients said the meetings encouraged them. Others felt pressured to purchase increasingly expensive packages because they feared that refusing might interrupt their breakthrough.
Julian never described the payments as purchasing God’s power. He called them investments in spiritual development.
The first time he visited the Living Water DBS Network, he expected something similar to the events he already knew. Instead, he found fourteen people sitting beneath a covered veranda beside a small family restaurant near Soufrière.
There was no stage, special lighting, reserved seating, or collection basket.
The group read Acts 3 and discussed the healing of the man at the temple gate. A fisherwoman named Sabine asked what Peter and John possessed when they had no silver or gold. A young mechanic replied that they carried the authority of Jesus and the willingness to stop for someone everyone else had ignored.
Julian listened closely.
The network had begun through several home-based Discovery Bible Study groups. Members prayed for the sick, helped families repair storm-damaged homes, supported young people leaving addiction, taught basic financial skills, and connected unemployed participants with ethical employers.
They did not promise that every person would be healed or immediately prosper. When someone required medical, legal, or psychological support, the group encouraged professional care. Prayer accompanied responsible action rather than replacing it.
Julian attended a second meeting after hearing that a woman named Celeste had experienced remarkable improvement after months of severe anxiety. He expected an exciting testimony.
Celeste described counselling, prayer, Scripture, medication prescribed by her doctor, daily support from two women in the group, and gradual restoration of sleep.
“Which part brought the breakthrough?” Julian asked.
Celeste smiled. “God met me through all of it. I will not divide His help into the part that looks spiritual and the part that looks ordinary.”
Her answer interested him, but it also frustrated him. It was difficult to package.
During the following weeks, Julian saw young people confess dishonesty, repay debts, reconcile with parents, leave exploitative relationships, and begin serving others. He witnessed no dramatic performance, yet the changes were undeniable.
He began imagining what the network could become with professional branding.
One afternoon, he invited the leaders to meet at his office. The room overlooked the sea and displayed awards, framed photographs, promotional posters, and shelves filled with products bearing his name.
Julian presented a proposal. He would provide money for equipment, transport, advertising, a larger venue, professional filming, and a regional conference. In return, Living Water would become part of his expanding platform.
“We could reach the entire Caribbean,” he said. “You have authenticity, but no visibility. I have visibility, organisation, and financial power.”
The leaders listened carefully.
Pastor Lucien asked, “What would you require from us?”
Julian moved to the next page of the presentation. The agreement gave his company exclusive rights to record testimonies, market the gatherings, approve speakers, and distribute branded spiritual-development materials.
It also required selected leaders to conduct private prayer sessions for premium clients.
Julian leaned forward. “There is one more thing. I want your senior leaders to pray over me and transfer the same spiritual authority operating in this network. Once that happens, I can take it to places you may never reach.”
Pastor Lucien closed the document.
“The Holy Spirit is not ours to transfer through a commercial agreement.”
“I am not trying to buy God,” Julian replied. “I am investing in expansion.”
Sabine asked, “Would people who cannot afford your premium access receive the same prayer and care?”
Julian hesitated. “There must be levels. People value what they pay for.”
Pastor Lucien opened Acts 8:9–25.
Simon had practised sorcery in Samaria and amazed the people. They called him the great power of God. When Philip proclaimed Christ, people believed and were baptised, including Simon.
Simon remained amazed by the signs and miracles. Later, when Peter and John prayed and believers received the Holy Spirit, Simon offered money so that he could possess the same authority.
Peter answered him firmly:
“Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”
The passage did not merely condemn a financial transaction. It exposed a heart that wanted spiritual power as another form of influence.
Lucien looked at Julian.
“You are offering resources, but you are also asking to control what God has not placed under your ownership. You want the gift to strengthen your platform without first allowing God to examine your heart.”
Julian’s expression hardened.
“Do you know how many ministries would accept this opportunity?”
“Perhaps many,” Lucien replied. “But we cannot sell access to prayer, testimonies, spiritual authority, or vulnerable people.”
Julian gathered the proposal documents.
“You people are afraid of growth.”
Sabine answered quietly, “We are afraid of building something large that no longer belongs to Jesus.”
The meeting ended without agreement.
That evening, Julian posted a message about religious leaders who rejected excellence because of jealousy and small thinking. He did not name Living Water, but everyone understood whom he meant.
Several people criticised the network. Others urged the leaders to accept the money and revise the agreement later.
Pastor Lucien refused to respond publicly.
“This is not first a public-relations problem,” he told the team. “It is a discipleship problem—for Julian and for us. His proposal has also revealed how easily financial pressure could influence our decisions.”
The network needed transport, equipment, and a safer meeting location. Julian’s money could have solved real problems. Refusing it felt costly.
The leaders therefore reviewed their own motives. Were they rejecting him because his personality irritated them? Were they afraid of professional systems? Had they explained their concerns clearly? Could they receive a gift without surrendering governance?
They concluded that financial support was not inherently corrupt. Scripture included generous people who funded ministry without purchasing control. The problem was the condition attached to Julian’s offer.
A gift ceases to be generosity when it becomes a means of owning people, testimony, influence, or spiritual access.
Julian stopped attending the DBS groups, but his interest in spiritual power continued.
He invited a visiting speaker to headline a large event titled “Unlocking the Mantle.” Premium tickets included front-row seating, a private prayer line, and a special “impartation session.”
The event sold well, but complaints followed. One woman said she had borrowed money because she believed the higher-priced ticket would secure a stronger spiritual blessing. Another participant’s emotional testimony was broadcast without full consent.
Julian insisted that no one had been forced to pay. Legally, that was largely true. Spiritually, however, fear and hope had been used to influence vulnerable people.
Several months later, Julian’s company entered financial difficulty. A major sponsor withdrew, vendors demanded payment, and former clients challenged promises made during private consultations.
Julian contacted Pastor Lucien, expecting condemnation.
Instead, Lucien agreed to meet him in the same restaurant where Living Water held one of its DBS groups.
Julian looked exhausted.
“Did you pray for this to happen?” he asked.
“No.”
“Do you think God is punishing me?”
“I will not claim knowledge God has not given me,” Lucien replied. “But difficulty can reveal what success allowed us to avoid.”
Julian stared towards the road.
“I wanted to do something great for God.”
“Did you want something great for God, or did you want God’s power to make you greater?”
The question remained between them.
Julian admitted that applause had become necessary to him. He felt secure when rooms were full, clients paid, and influential people called his name. He had gradually treated spiritual language as another business asset.
Lucien did not offer quick reassurance.
“Simon believed and was baptised, yet Peter still confronted the bitterness and bondage in his heart. Religious participation is not the same as inner surrender.”
Julian asked what he should do.
“Begin with truth. Stop selling access to spiritual power. Correct misleading claims. Repay what can reasonably be repaid. Obtain professional advice concerning your business obligations. Ask forgiveness from people whose stories you used. Then return to Jesus without presenting Him with another expansion plan.”
Julian’s repentance unfolded slowly.
He cancelled the premium prayer programme and removed claims suggesting that payment could unlock special spiritual access. He contacted participants whose testimonies had been used and offered to remove the recordings. He also invited an accountant and legal adviser to review his business practices.
The review was painful. Some clients had received legitimate services, but other promises were vague and exaggerated. Julian could not repay everyone immediately, so a transparent process was created.
He also apologised publicly:
“I used spiritual language in ways that could make people believe money increased their access to God’s power. That was wrong. Prayer, salvation, the Holy Spirit, and the mercy of Jesus are not products under my ownership.”
Some people accepted the apology. Others believed it was another strategy to restore his reputation. Julian had to accept that repentance did not give him control over public trust.
He returned to Living Water but was not immediately restored to visible leadership.
For several months, he helped arrange chairs, transport older participants, prepare meals, and clean after meetings. No one humiliated him, but neither did they rush to place him behind a microphone.
One evening, the group studied Leviticus 27. The chapter addressed vows, valuations, dedicated property, redemption, and things consecrated to God.
Julian asked why Scripture assigned monetary values to religious commitments if spiritual things could not be purchased.
Sabine answered, “Money can express stewardship, responsibility, and the fulfilment of a vow. The danger begins when we imagine money gives us ownership over God, people, or grace.”
The chapter showed that vows were not casual words. What people dedicated to God had to be handled truthfully. Devotion could not be manipulated whenever circumstances changed.
Julian began to understand that his problem had not simply been charging money. Teachers, counsellors, musicians, organisers, venues, and workers could be paid honestly. Ministries required resources, budgets, and accountability.
His deeper error was presenting spiritual access as a product and using people’s fear, pain, and hope to increase his influence.
Psalm 117 became another turning point:
“O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.”
The psalm invited all nations to praise God because of His mercy and enduring truth. The praise belonged to God, not to the personality organising the event.
Julian wrote in his journal:
“The Gospel can reach nations without my name becoming known among them.”
A year later, Living Water organised a regional gathering. Julian helped with logistics but requested that his name remain absent from the promotional material.
Pastor Lucien asked him why.
“I am still learning to serve where visibility is not my reward.”
During the gathering, participants from several islands shared how simple DBS groups were multiplying in homes, workplaces, fishing communities, schools, and businesses.
There were no premium prayer lines. Leaders prayed for people without charge. Offerings were voluntary, clearly recorded, and used for transparent purposes. People with significant needs were referred to appropriate professionals rather than pressured into dramatic public testimonies.
Near the end, Lucien invited Julian to share briefly.
Julian stood without music or introduction.
“I once believed the Holy Spirit could become the greatest asset in my portfolio,” he said. “I wanted His power without surrendering ownership of my image, ambitions, and methods. God’s gift cannot be purchased, branded, or controlled. We do not carry the Holy Spirit to make our names great. The Holy Spirit forms us so that Jesus becomes visible.”
Then he stepped away from the microphone.
The room remained quiet for several seconds.
Julian had finally received something money could never buy: not control over the gift, but freedom from the need to own it.
Acts 8:9–25 introduces Simon, a man who had practised sorcery and amazed the people of Samaria. His influence was built upon spiritual reputation. People described him as the great power of God.
When Philip proclaimed the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, people believed and were baptised. Simon also believed and was baptised, remaining close to Philip because he was astonished by the miracles he observed.
When Peter and John arrived and prayed for the Samaritan believers to receive the Holy Spirit, Simon saw something he desired. He offered money for the authority to impart the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands.
Peter’s response was severe because Simon’s request revealed that his old understanding of power remained active. He viewed spiritual authority as something that could be acquired, possessed, and used to increase personal influence.
Peter told him that his heart was not right before God and called him to repent of his wickedness. Simon’s problem was not merely ignorance; he remained bound by bitterness and iniquity.
The passage warns that baptism, religious participation, fascination with miracles, and proximity to ministry do not automatically produce transformed motives.
People may enter Christian spaces while continuing to pursue status, money, control, admiration, access, or supernatural experiences. The language changes, but the heart may still be seeking the same power it desired before.
The Holy Spirit is God, not a spiritual commodity. His gifts are distributed according to His will for the common good, not purchased through wealth, relationships, donations, titles, or access to influential leaders.
This does not mean money has no role in ministry. Scripture teaches generous giving, support for workers, care for the poor, responsible stewardship, transparent administration, and voluntary partnership.
The distinction lies in ownership and motive.
A donor may support ministry without purchasing control. A teacher may receive fair payment without selling revelation. A counsellor may charge transparently for professional time without claiming that the fee increases access to God. A conference may have genuine costs without creating spiritual classes in which wealthy participants supposedly receive greater grace.
Whenever money becomes the price of divine favour, healing, prophecy, prayer, impartation, forgiveness, or access to spiritual power, the Gospel is being distorted.
Leviticus 27 addresses vows, dedicated persons and property, valuations, redemption, and offerings consecrated to God. The chapter teaches that devotion must be handled responsibly.
People could not make careless promises and then manipulate the terms when obedience became costly. What was dedicated to God was not to be treated casually.
The chapter also shows that financial value and sacred commitment can interact without grace becoming a product. Money may represent responsibility, restitution, redemption, stewardship, or the fulfilment of a vow.
The issue is not the existence of finances but the condition of the heart and the integrity of the arrangement.
Ministries should therefore maintain clear financial practices. Fees, donations, honorariums, offerings, product costs, and charitable assistance should be communicated honestly. Vulnerable people must not be pressured through fear, prophecy, exaggerated promises, or spiritual intimidation.
Psalm 117 is the shortest psalm, yet its vision includes all nations and peoples. Everyone is called to praise the Lord because His merciful kindness is great and His truth endures forever.
The mission is global, but the glory remains God’s.
Those who long to reach nations must examine whether they desire God’s name to be praised or their own platform to become internationally recognised.
The Gospel does not require celebrity to cross borders. It travels through ordinary disciples, translated Scripture, faithful homes, ethical businesses, local churches, hospitality, prayer, suffering, service, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Together, Acts 8, Leviticus 27, and Psalm 117 reveal that spiritual power belongs to God, sacred commitments require integrity, money must remain a servant rather than a master, and global mission exists for God’s praise.
A movement should ask:
Are we offering spiritual access based on payment? Are testimonies being used with informed consent? Do donors control ministry decisions? Are leaders accountable? Are professional services distinguished from spiritual promises? Do our fundraising methods exploit fear or desperation? Are we building the name of Jesus or using Jesus to build our own name?
The Holy Spirit is not given so that people can enlarge personal kingdoms.
He is given so that surrendered disciples can bear witness to Jesus.

Acts 8:9–25 reveals the collision between two understandings of power. Simon’s former influence depended upon amazement and personal reputation. The apostles carried authority that came from God and could not be purchased.
Simon believed and was baptised, yet his request exposed an untransformed desire for control. Peter therefore called him to repentance rather than celebrating his financial offer.
Leviticus 27 teaches responsibility concerning vows and dedicated resources. Sacred commitments must be handled honestly, and what is given to God cannot be manipulated casually.
Psalm 117 calls every nation to praise the Lord because of His mercy and enduring truth. Global mission exists for God’s glory, not the enlargement of human personalities.
These passages call disciples to financial integrity, surrendered motives, truthful stewardship, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit rather than money, influence, or performance.
Repent of corrupt motives, receive the Holy Spirit as God’s gift, give generously without purchasing control, communicate costs honestly, fulfil vows responsibly, protect vulnerable people from financial pressure, obtain consent before sharing testimonies, maintain transparent records, distinguish professional services from spiritual promises, and direct all praise towards God.
Avoid selling divine favour, charging for special access to prayer, implying that larger gifts produce stronger blessings, manipulating people through fear, purchasing titles or spiritual influence, giving money to control leaders, branding vulnerable testimonies without consent, restoring gifted people before character is tested, or using global mission to enlarge a personal platform.
Review one financial practice connected to your church, ministry, business, conference, counselling service, music, publishing, or online platform.
Ask whether every fee, offering, donation, product, and service is explained truthfully. Remove any language suggesting that payment guarantees healing, prophecy, favour, breakthrough, deliverance, or greater access to God.
Examine whether donors receive inappropriate influence over leadership, testimony, doctrine, or recipient selection.
Where you have used another person’s story, confirm that consent was informed and freely given. Respect any request to remove personal material.
Write down why you desire spiritual gifts or wider influence. Identify any ambition rooted in recognition, control, insecurity, competition, or financial gain.
Pray:
“Holy Spirit, do not strengthen the kingdom I built for myself. Dismantle what resists Jesus and form His character within me.”
Holy Spirit, forgive me for every time I have desired Your gifts more than Your government over my life.
Expose motives rooted in ambition, insecurity, money, competition, control, and the desire to be admired. Teach me to value character above visibility and obedience above influence.
Deliver me from attempting to purchase, manipulate, brand, or control what belongs to You. Help me give generously without demanding ownership and receive support without surrendering truth.
Make me honest in every fee, offering, promise, testimony, and financial record. Protect vulnerable people from pressure through anything I say or build.
Let my life, resources, gifts, and opportunities exist for the honour of Jesus and the service of others. Amen.
Father, we lift Saint Lucia before You. Pour out Your Spirit across its districts, towns, villages, coastlands, mountains, schools, workplaces, businesses, churches, and families.
Bring spiritual awakening marked by repentance, holiness, truth, compassion, reconciliation, and multiplying disciples.
Protect people from spiritual manipulation, financial exploitation, deceptive promises, fear-based religion, and every practice that places human control above Your truth.
Strengthen pastors, ministry leaders, musicians, entrepreneurs, counsellors, educators, public servants, healthcare workers, farmers, fishers, tourism workers, and families.
Provide dignified opportunities for young people. Protect them from addiction, violence, exploitation, unemployment, hopelessness, and pressure to leave their communities without support.
Give integrity, wisdom, and humility to national and local leaders. Strengthen institutions responsible for education, healthcare, justice, employment, housing, public safety, tourism, agriculture, and environmental stewardship.
Raise churches that pray freely, give transparently, protect vulnerable people, welcome accountability, and refuse to commercialise the gifts of God.
May Saint Lucia become a place where the beauty of creation is matched by the beauty of holy, compassionate, and truthful Christian witness. Send disciple-makers from Saint Lucia throughout the Caribbean and the nations. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Lord, purify Christian ministry throughout the Americas. Expose every system that sells spiritual access, manipulates desperate people, misuses testimonies, or allows donors to purchase control.
Give churches transparent finances, accountable leadership, ethical fundraising, clear safeguarding, and humble stewardship.
Strengthen believers who have been wounded by spiritual manipulation. Bring healing, wise pastoral care, restitution where possible, and renewed confidence in Jesus.
Raise generous people who give without controlling and leaders who receive support without selling their conscience.
May the Gospel travel across the Americas through surrendered disciples rather than commercialised power. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father, protect Your Church from the love of money, celebrity culture, spiritual pride, and the desire to control Your gifts.
Where leaders have used prophecy, healing, deliverance, prayer, or pastoral authority for financial gain, bring exposure, repentance, accountability, and reform.
Teach ministries to support workers fairly while keeping grace free. Give wisdom concerning conferences, media, products, counselling, publishing, and fundraising.
Let every nation praise Your name because of Your mercy and truth. May Jesus, not human personalities, remain at the centre of the global Church. Amen.
Lord Jesus, raise disciple-makers who cannot be bought and who do not attempt to buy influence.
Give them contentment, financial integrity, accountable relationships, and freedom from the need for applause.
Teach them to recognise repentance before releasing responsibility and to develop character alongside gifting.
May every DBS group become a place where motives are examined, money is handled transparently, vulnerable people are protected, and the gifts of the Spirit serve the whole community. Amen.
Lord of the harvest, reveal Jesus among peoples who have known religion mainly through fear, payment, ritual obligation, or spiritual manipulation.
Send humble disciples who offer the Gospel freely, serve without exploitation, and translate Scripture into heart languages.
Protect new believers from leaders who seek money, control, or personal worship. Raise local elders of proven character and transparent stewardship.
May all nations praise You because Your mercy is great and Your truth endures forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Today, I acknowledge that the Holy Spirit, His gifts, divine favour, prayer, salvation, and the mercy of Jesus cannot be purchased or controlled.
I will give without buying influence and receive support without selling truth. I will communicate costs honestly, protect testimonies, maintain financial accountability, and refuse to manipulate vulnerable people.
I will pursue spiritual gifts for service rather than importance. I will welcome the testing of my motives and allow character to develop before visibility increases.
🦅 I will see like an eagle.
🦁 I will lead like a lion.
✝️ I will serve like Christ.
By God’s grace, my resources, platform, gifts, and influence will point people towards Jesus rather than towards me.

Today, Simon desired spiritual authority without understanding surrender. Peter confronted the condition of his heart and called him to repentance.
Tomorrow, Philip will leave a flourishing public ministry and follow the Spirit towards a quiet road where one traveller is reading Scripture and searching for understanding.
